WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio – In an effort to attract and quickly hire the next generation of civilian acquisition professionals, the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center is holding unique recruiting events across the country.

Known as roadshows, the events introduce potential employees to AFLCMC’s mission, facilitates interviews, and allows hiring managers to make job offers on the spot, as well as negotiate pay and incentives.

Designed to reduce barriers often associated with applying for federal employment, to include delays in job offers, and onboarding, the roadshows have been able to hire and place newly selected candidates into positions within 40 days on average from the date of a hiring event, by using expedited and direct hire authorities.

“Our roadshows are exciting and full of energy,” said Jennifer Bauer, Management Analyst in the AFLCMC Personnel Programs Division “To date, we’ve held six hiring events where we’ve received no fewer than 800 resumes from interested candidates for each event. Since our first event in May, we have filled approximately 92 percent of the requirements we set out to fill.”

The roadshows are generally held off base and recruit candidates with a range of experience, from the recent college graduate to senior management positions.

Bauer said one critical component of each event is the ability to bring together all stakeholders required to execute a hiring action to include recruiters, hiring officials, human resources liaisons, staffing specialists, the civilian personnel offices and more.

“Partnership at each event is key. From the planning to execution phases, teaming between all involved assures the success of each event; further, it supports our ability to positively impact the federal hiring process by executing so many different aspects of the hiring possible in a single day,” Bauer said.

The next event will be held in January near Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.
