Richard Strievich, with the University of Dayton Research Institute, runs laboratory tests on camelina oil at the Air Force Research Laboratory, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. AFRL is working closely with a number of industry and academic partners to research and develop hydro-treated renewable jet (HRJ) derived from plant oils and animal fats. Air Force Alternative Fuels Certification Office officials intend to certify a 50-50 blend of HRJ with traditional JP-8 jet fuel to power the service's entire fleet of aircraft.
