Bagram leaders visit Airmen, Soldier at Forward Operating Base Lion

Capt. Patrick Kolesiak, Panjshir Provincial Reconstruction Team chief engineer, shares information about Pyawusht village with Brig. Gen. Mike Holmes, 455th Air Expeditionary Wing commander, during a visit to the Pyawusht basic health clinic March 8. General Holmes, accompanied by Chief Master Sgt. Dennis Vannorsdall, 455th command chief master sergeant, and leadership from the 755th Air Expeditionary Group, came out to Forward Operating Base Lion to talk with Airmen and see what progress has been made in the neighborhoods they are working to improve. JOINT BASE BALAD, Iraq ? Senior Airman Steven Slocum, 332nd Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron security forces member deployed here from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, lubricates a nasopharyngeal airway before inserting it into the nasal passage of a fellow Combat Life Saver Course student here March 2. Performing an NPA was a skill required for course students to receive their CLS certification. Students were required to both administer and receive an NPA on each other. Once CLS-certified, servicemembers are trained to provide immediate care, administer IV fluids to control shock, and perform needle chest decompression for a casualty with tension pneumothorax. A tension pneumothorax is a life-threatening condition that results from a progressive deterioration and worsening of a simple pneumothorax, collapsed lung. (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt.
