Runners pass a patriotic-themed hydration station during the Air Force Marathon. Each year the Marathon gives an award to the best hydration station, which have various themes including Star Wars, Aliens and even Elvis.

Mile 10

The city of Fairborn annually sponsors "Mile 10" of the Air Force Marathon highlighting the city and its support of nearby Wright-Patterson AFB.

Dumm wins 2012 Men's Marathon for second time

Kennedy wins 2012 5k

Kory Kennedy, 22, of Kokomo, IN., crosses the finish line at 16:39 to take first place for the Men's 5k race in the 2012 Air Force Marathon. The 5k is always hosted on the grounds of Wright State University in partnership with the Air Force.

2012 Marathon begins

Runners leave the gate officially starting the 2012 Air Force Marathon at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. With 15,000 runners, this Marathon was the largest and quickest to sell out.

F-35B completes first airborne engine start tests

Lockheed Martin test pilot Dan Canin flies BF-2 during air start testing Aug. 8. Air starts test the ability of the F-35’s propulsion system to restart during flight. Verifying the restart capability of the propulsion system is part of the initial flight test program for the F-35 and a prerequisite for high angle-of-attack testing. The F-35B is the variant of the Joint Strike Fighter designed for use by U.S. Marine Corps, as well as F-35 international partners in the United Kingdom and Italy. The F-35B is capable of short take-offs and vertical landings to provide air power from amphibious ships, ski jump aircraft carriers and expeditionary airfields. Dr. Saber Hussain

Dr. Saber Hussain (711th Human Performance Wing), a senior toxicologist, is a leader in the emerging fields of nanobioeffects and nanotoxicology. He developed a state-of-the-art Nanocharacterization Laboratory for toxicology studies, the first of its kind within the Department of Defense addressing the knowledge gap with respect to the human and environmental health implications of nanomaterials.

Dr. Rajesh R. Naik

Dr. Rajesh R. Naik (Materials and Manufacturing Directorate) is an acknowledged leader in biomaterials research. He has made significant contributions in key areas, such as chemical sensors for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance and human performance monitoring, covert taggants for tagging, tracking and locating and materials for chem-bio defense and anti-tamper. Dr. Naik has received the Air Force Outstanding Scientist Award and three consecutive AFOSR STAR team awards for Basic Research. .
