KC-135 Stratotanker Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Container

The KC-135 APU Shipping and Storage Container (CNU-453/E) is a sealed, welded aluminum, controlled breathing, reusable container. The container is engineered for the physical and environmental protection of the APU during worldwide transportation and storage. The container consists of a base, a completely removable cradle, and a completely removable cover equipped with the special features listed below. The base is skid/double walled base extrusion with forklift openings, humidity indicator, pressure equalizing valve and desiccant port for easy replacement of desiccant (controls dehumidification). A drain line for oil is also incorporated into the design. A silicone rubber gasket and quick release cam-over-center latches create a water/air-tight seal at the base-cover interface. Container external dimensions are 50.0 inches length, 32.0 inches width, and 38.0 inches height. Empty container weight is 250 lbs. Stacking pads on the lid provide for stacking of like containers up to 16 feet high. The APU is hard mounted to the removable aluminum cradle system which in turn is attached to shock mounts in the interior of the container base. This make the installation and removal of the APU very quick and efficient.
