Career Fields
Careers at the Information Directorate span the spectrum of science, engineering, and technology as well as in finance, contract management and other roles. We are always on the lookout for the brightest students, experienced professionals, research professors, and transitioning military.

We offer tremendous opportunities for a wide range of professionals with an interest and background in:
Acquisition Management (Civilian/Military):
- Acquisition Managers work with various customers to identify requirements and advocate projects to demonstrate and transition new R&D solutions to meet them. While ensuring research being conducted to relevant to future needs, they formulate R&D programs and manage R&D contracts for various technologies, and present new programs to the user community.
Business (Civilian):
- Contract Managers support the Information Directorate in three primary ways: they negotiate, award and administer (1) contracts for research, development and systems; (2) tools to support and stimulate research for the public good; and (3) purchase orders, contracts and other acquisition instruments for operational support.
- Our Financial experts serve as financial advisors and counselors in business management matters to the staff. They help determine comptroller policies and procedures pertaining to the establishment and management of budgeting, accounting services, program cost analysis, program and statistical reporting, and management information. They also review and analyze operating information (financial and non-financial) to provide effective program management data. People in the Finance office also coordinate the designing, maintaining, and implementing the Executive Information System and interface with Personnel, Contracting and Logistics.
Computer Science (Civilian/Military):
- Computer Scientists design and develop scientific software applications and hardware in a scientific research environment. They are responsible for the application of, or research into, computer science methods and techniques to store, manipulate, transform or present information by means of computer systems. Computer Scientists develop new and improved concepts, principles, and techniques that will advance the body of knowledge of computer science, and adapt and apply advanced computer science methods and techniques to solve complex computer processing requirements. Computer science work requires in-depth knowledge of the theoretical foundations of computer science, including computer system and system software organization, the theoretical models for the representation and transformation of information structures, and knowledge of relevant mathematical and statistical sciences.
Electrical Engineering (Civilian/Military):
- Electrical Engineers conduct exploration, experimentation, and validation of emerging and revolutionary concepts in Information Systems Science and Technology to meet Air Force unique requirements for Information Dominance. They work to transition these concepts to aerospace systems to meet war fighter needs.
Operations Research Analysis (Civilian/Military):
- Operations Research Analysts establish and lead teams in the conception, planning, and conduct of leading edge research. They worth with contracting in executing contracts, tasks, and engineering change proposals; with various customers to understand their requirements and provide results of analysis; and develop overall acquisitions strategies in pursuit of program goals.
Physics (Civilian/Military):
- Physicists conduct leading edge research and implement resulting ideas into demonstrable laboratory prototypes. They manage integration and test & evaluation, and facilitate technology transition, as well as work with contracting in executing contracts, tasks, and engineering change proposals.
Other (Civilian):
- Civil Engineers provide technical advice, engineering guidance, engineering, maintenance, operational and energy management support to the Information Directorate in order to meet facility structure and program needs for mission support. They also provide environmental, bioenvironmental, occupational health, and fire support to meet organizational requirements in these areas.
