10-POINT VETERANS FACTSHEET

In a letter dated 29 February 1996, The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) issued instructions to agencies regarding the reopening of examinations for preference eligibles.

The letter states that the OPM will no longer maintain the listing. It is the responsibility of the Agency filling the vacancy to ensure that preference eligibles are given the means and opportunity to be advised of positions for which they may apply.

PROCEDURES FOR FILING

Which positions may I reopen?

Eligible veterans are entitle to reopen examinations and submit applications for positions to which an appointment has been made within the preceding 3 years. A list of those positions is available for your review at the Employment/Customer Service counter in Building 2, Area C, Gate 1C, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.

Who is eligible to reopen?

Only 10 point veterans are entitled to reopen examinations. Veterans must submit proof of that preference: (1) DD Form 214, member copy 4; (2) SF-15, Application for 10 point Veteran Preference; (3) either a letter from the VA, dated 1991 or later or a letter from a branch of the Armed Services, stating the percentage of your disability.

How will I be considered?
 
When a vacancy is being announced, and you have listed that position on you job interest sheet, you will be sent a copy of the vacancy announcement along with the appropriate forms, to apply for the position. It is your responsibility to apply for the position in a timely manner. There is no guarantee that you will become employed using this method of application. You must be rated qualified for the position in accordance with the appropriate rating standards.

How long will I be considered?

You must reapply for each vacancy as that vacancy occurs. You will be notified about the upcoming vacancy announcement as long as the position is listed on the 10-Point Veterens List.
