The Air Force Research Laboratory's Information Directorate (AFRL/RI) and its Information Institute (II) solicits your participation in the Visiting Faculty Research Program (VFRP). A similar program, the Summer Faculty Fellowship Program (SFFP) is sponsored by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR). Those wishing to apply under that program should consult the AFOSR web pages for application information, deadlines, etc. The SFFP and AFRL/RI VFRP provide research opportunities for full time faculty for 8-12 week tours during the May-September period. AFRL/RI's goal with the VFRP is to provide a rewarding experience to the highest qualified candidates from the academic research communities.
The Information Institute is a virtual, collaborative research environment concentrating on Information Science and Technology. The Information Institute currently consists of universities allied with the US Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate in Rome, NY. The Information Directorate is focused on basic research and advanced development in the cyber domain. Its diverse workforce of more than 800 military and civilian scientists and engineers are charged with leading the discovery, development, and integration of affordable warfighting information technology capabilities for our air, space and cyberspace force.
Location within the Griffiss Business and Technology Park affords the Institute strategic advantages in linking technologies to both potential commercial markets and US Air Force users. The Information Institute provides a unique opportunity to work with the US Air Force to turn science into applications.

As part of the Air Force Research Laboratory's Information Directorate, the Information Institute concentrates on Information Science and Technology research.

- Processing and Exploration
- Cyber Science and Technology
The Information Institute concentrates on collaborations between its members and the researchers of the Information Directorate on Information Science and Technology Research at its Rome Research Site.
Within the scope of these CTCs the directorate is organized in four research divisions: Information Intelligence Systems and Analysis Division, Information Exploitation and Operations Division, Information Systems Division, and Computing and Communication Division.
We're looking for new ideas for research and education partnership activities on a continuing basis and we'd like to know what you are doing in these and related areas!
How the Information Institute Works:
Research teams are assembled from the Institute membership through a variety of means. Alliances between government and universities called "Educational Partnership Agreements" (EPAs) are used extensively. In addition, individual professors and students can participate through postdoctoral arrangements, sabbatical leaves, the Intergovernmental Personnel Act, Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) Researcher Assistance Programs, Cooperative Research and Development Agreements, Summer Faculty Fellowship Program and the National Academy of Sciences Associateship Programs and other similar programs and agreements.
The Institute will be chaired by a representative of a member of the II on a rotating basis.
