Colonel William P. Mueller is Director, Human Systems Integration Directorate (HP), 711th Human Performance Wing, Air Force Research Laboratory, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. The HP Directorate provides Human Systems Integration (HSI) expertise for the Line of the Air Force (LAF) and the Air Force Medical System (AFMS). Col Mueller is also the director of the USAF Pilot-Physician Program.

He previously served as the MAJCOM Pilot-Physician for Air Education and Training Command (AETC) at Randolph AFB, TX, where he established a MAJCOM Human Systems Integration team in support of AETC acquisition and sustainment initiatives.

Col Mueller was born in Oak Park, IL. He was first commissioned a second lieutenant upon graduating from the United States Air Force Academy in 1987. He served as a pilot for seven years before attending medical school at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences and becoming a physician in 1998.

Col Mueller became a pilot-physician in 2000 and was assigned to fly the B-1 bomber. He flew as a B-1 Aircraft Commander in Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), and went on to become a B-1 instructor pilot and operational test pilot. He completed residency and board-certification in Family Medicine in 2008.
