F-15 Eagle Canopy Container


The F-15 Canopy Shipping and Storage Container (CNU-538/E) is a sealed, welded aluminum, controlled breathing, reusable container. The container is engineered for the physical and environmental protection of the canopy during worldwide transportation and storage. The container consists of a base and completely removable cover equipped with the special features listed below. The base is a one piece skid/double walled base extrusion with forklift openings, humidity indicator, pressure equalizing valve (1.0 psi pressure/ 1.0 psi vacuum) and desiccant port for easy replacement of desiccant (controls dehumidification). A silicone rubber gasket and quick release cam-over-center latches create a water/air-tight seal at the base-cover interface. Stacking pads on the lid provide for stacking of like containers up to 16 feet high. An aluminum cradle system is equipped to accommodate both the one-man and two-man canopies. Shock and vibration isolation is provided by 4 pound per cubic foot polyethylene foam adhered to the cover and base.
15 years after being originally released into the field, 30 of the original 110 containers were refurbished by AFPTEF. These refurbishment duties included repairing seal welds, replacing hardware, repairing polyethylene foam, and cleaning containers.

F-15 Eagle Heads Up Display (HUD) Unit Container


The CNU-728/E is a sealed, welded aluminum, controlled breathing, reusable container. The container is engineered for the physical and environmental protection of the HUD during worldwide transportation and storage. The container consists of a low profile base, cradle, and completely removable cover equipped with the special features listed below. Guide posts are located in opposite corners of the base to keep the cover from coming in contact with the HUD during cover removal and replacement. The base is a one piece skid/double walled base extrusion with 4-way forklift openings, humidity indicator, pressure equalizing valve (1.5 psi pressure/ 1.5 psi vacuum), and a desiccant port for easy replacement of desiccant (controls dehumidification). The ability of the container to control/eliminate humidity inside the container eliminates the requirement for a barrier bag which is required in the current packaging. An internal document holder designed to hold folded 8.5 x 11 documents is located at the forward end of the container. The ability of the container to control/eliminate humidity inside the

A silicone rubber gasket and quick release cam-over-center latches create a water/air-tight seal at the base-cover interface. Container external dimensions are 40.2 inches length, 25.9 inches width, and 33.5 inches height. Container empty weight is 225 pounds, and 284 pounds with the HUD in place.

An aluminum cradle system is integrated into the base and suspended on four stainless steel helical wire rope isolators mounted at 45 degrees that provide shock and vibration protection to 20 G's. The HUD is attached to the cradle system by placing it on the plastic track and sliding it onto the fwd alignment pins. The HUD will slide onto the pins until the HUD captive bolts make contact with the cradle aft captive nuts. When this occurs, the left HUD captive bolt is tightened to between 30 and 40 in/lbs. Once complete, the right HUD captive screw is tightened to the same value. Once the HUD is secured to the cradle, the HUD combining glass cover is rotated into place. Once the cover is in place, the cover locks are rotated 90 degrees and locked in place with threaded aluminum knobs. There are no detachable parts on the container other than the container lid, which eliminates FOD risks.
 

F-15 Eagle RMP Radome Container


The CNU-723/E is a sealed, welded aluminum, controlled breathing, reusable container. The container is engineered for the physical and environmental protection of the Radome during worldwide transportation and storage. The container consists of a low profile base, cradle, and completely removable cover equipped with the special features listed below. Removable guide posts located in opposite corners of the base keep the cover from coming in contact with the Radome during cover removal and replacement. The base is a one piece skid/double walled base extrusion with 4-way forklift openings (2 enclosed, 2 pallet jack capable), humidity indicator, pressure equalizing valves (1.5 psi pressure/ 1.5 psi vacuum), and a desiccant port for easy replacement of desiccant (controls dehumidification). A silicone rubber gasket and quick release cam-over-center latches create a water/air-tight seal at the base-cover interface. Container external dimensions are 101.1 inches length, 50.7 inches width, and 61.4 inches height. Container empty weight is 868 pounds, and 997 pounds with the Radome in place.
An aluminum cradle system is integrated into the base and suspended on four stainless steel helical wire rope isolators that provide shock and vibration protection to 50 G's. The Radome is installed into the cradle system by lowering it onto six neoprene rubber pads; felt meeting ASTM D2475 will be placed between the neoprene rubber and the Radome to prevent marking. The Radome will be oriented with the hinge on the right (from the forward end). The Radome will be positioned so that the ring is in contact with the high density polyethylene pads on the forward clamps. The forward clamps must be loosened to the degree that they can rotate freely over the Radome ring. Once this is accomplished, the radome is rigidly attached to the cradle by tightening the vertical aspect of the forward clamps and the horizontal aspect of the forward clamps. After the forward clamps are fully tightened, the aft clamp arm is rotated over the Radome. Felt is once again place between the Radome and the neoprene rubber of the aft clamp. The aft clamp rod end is rotated into place and tightened. There are no detachable parts on the container other than the container lid and the felt inserts, which eliminates FOD risks.

The F-15 Toolkit Shipping and Storage Containers are sealed, reusable, aluminum containers engineered for the physical and environmental protection of the Toolkits during worldwide transportation and storage. These containers house the -268, -368, -468, and -768 (Detail A, C, F, and J) Toolkits. The corresponding CNU numbers are CNU-670/E, CNU-664/E, CNU-665/E, CNU-666/E, CNU-667/E, CNU-668/E and CNU-669/E, respectively. A container for the -90 Toolkit was also designed though that lacks a CNU number. The container consists of a base and a hinged cover equipped with the special features listed below. The base is a one piece skid/double walled base extrusion with 4-way forklift openings. A silicone rubber gasket and quick release cam-over-center latches create a water/air-tight seal at the base-cover interface. The interior of the container is made up of polyethylene foam cutouts, sometimes in layers to maximize container size. The foam is adhered to the base and cover of the container to isolate all items within. The items are stored in the container in order of size and frequency of use.
