ATTLA supports NASA James Webb Space Telescope mission

The NASA Space Telescope Transporter for Air, Road, and Sea (STTARS), is shown in the air transport configuration about to be on loaded into a C-5 Space Cargo Modified (SCM) aircraft in November 2012 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. At the back is a three axle stinger and rear elevating gooseneck connected to the back of the STTARS container. Connected to the front of the container is the front elevating gooseneck connected to a four axle Tractor. The equipment is necessary to safely load the James Webb space telescope aboard the aircraft with only six inches to spare on each side of the STTARS, which was certified safe for flight by the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s Air Transportability Test Loading Activity May 15, 2014.
