WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio --

Volunteers are needed as the Wright-Patterson community continues to honor those who perished in the 9/11 attacks with the fourth annual Run for the Fallen scheduled for September 11, 2017.

Led by the Wright-Patterson Company Grade Officers’ Council, they’re looking for volunteers to help set up mile markers for the 5k run and 2k walk, set up tables, fill water jugs, set up cups and hand them out the morning of the event.

The WPCGOC is also looking for volunteers who would like to speak about their 9/11 experiences during the event, in-between announcements of each significant moment of 9/11 at the same time it occurred in 2001.

The annual event remembers the nearly 3,000 people who died in the attacks on the World Trade Center towers, the Pentagon and onboard Flight 93, which crashed outside Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The event averages more than 1,500 people in attendance each year.
