The Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center received the Air Force Organizational Excellence Award for the fourth time since the center stood up in 2006. The four awards span seven consecutive years, from 2009 through 2015.

Ensuring U.S. nuclear weapons are “never doubted and always feared,” AFNWC synchronizes all aspects of nuclear materiel management on behalf of Air Force Materiel Command and in direct support of Air Force Global Strike Command.

“This award recognizes the phenomenal work our Airmen do every day for nuclear deterrence that clearly sets the center above and apart from similar units,” said Maj. Gen. Scott W. Jansson, AFNWC commander and Program Executive Officer for Strategic Systems, Kirtland AFB, New Mexico.

The award recognized the center for executing 37 acquisition programs and hundreds of sustainment programs. It also cites the center’s support of five operational test launches of the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile during 2015.

In addition, AFNWC led a joint interagency group which oversaw the warhead program for the new Long-Range Stand-Off weapon. The center also completed a $31-million mobile nuclear maintenance system for the United States Air Forces in Europe.  Finally, the center stood up a new directorate to integrate nuclear command, control and communications as a weapon system of systems.

Military and civilian members assigned or attached to AFNWC from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2015, are authorized to wear the ribbon. Personnel who have questions regarding the wear of the ribbon should contact their local force support squadron or manpower and personnel office.

Headquartered at Kirtland AFB, the center has about 1,900 personnel assigned to 17 locations worldwide, including at Hanscom, Hill, Eglin and Tinker AFBs, as well as several embed locations throughout the United States and in Europe.
